Chapter 8

most valuable technique learned from Chapter 8. Can you use it in all types of memorization? If so, why and if not, why not? The most valuble technique i learned was the three R's Record Retain and Retrieve. i believe i can use this types of techniques because everytime i try to concentrate in one thing other things are runing through my head for example other assignmens. sometimes its hard to memorize something that you don't find intresting or depending if you try to memorize something ovenight It is difficult

summary self-evaluation blog

The most challenging thing was putting my thought together. I wrote everything i wanted to talk about, but the difficult thing was puttin everything in sentences. That was the biggest challenge for me. i never receive a grade so i do not know how my essay was, but i do belive that my strenght are collecting my thoughts and knowing was i want to talk about basically i write a summary and my weakness i belive is puttin gmy thoughts together in sentences or paragraphs.

libby blog response

1. Do the author's survey results indicate that feminist is, by and large, a dirty word for her fellow students? what in the makes you agree or disagree?
I aggree and disagree because a lot of people believe that women are the ones who are feminist and guys cannot be defined as feminist. I believe that everyone has a feminist side in them.

2. What reasons does libby offer why there are not more selfidentified feminists?
One of the reasons is that " people don't consider themselves feminists is the negative connotation attached to the word"

3. Why does she think more people should identify themselves as feminists? Libby believes that "feminism is about giving women and men the chance to live the life they choose free of sexim, sex"

Anzaldua blog #2

Anzaldua does not write an academic essay she writes an essay that its different than the others because the language that she uses she uses english and spanish on the reading. Anzaldua's reading defines the different languages that we talk and how we speak the same language, but we speak it differently with each group of people we have a different style meaning the way we talk. we talk one way to our family another with our friends and manager or co workers.one of the quotes that i choose it shows that she does not write a traditional essay because she writes "and i think, do you tame a wild toungue, train it to be quite, and do you briddle i? how do you make it lie down?" in the reading she starts out with a story, but behind that story theres a point the main idea. Anzaldua also writes quotes in the reading thats what makes it a non traditional essay.

Anzaldua blog

Write About a time when you felt that someone in authority tried to silence you or critized the way you spoke.

In the past i have had an experience where people made fun of you because you did not speak english correctly. When i was younger i was attending middle school latinos will hang out with latinos. The school i attened it was mostly latinos. I did experience people critize the way i spoke. when i started school i only new spanish thats what was spoken in my house, but just yesterday i actually got into an argument with one of our customers at the bank. He was being really friendly at first he thought i was white and i notice by his last name that he was latino. Then he started telling me how he was upse and how he was going to sue the bank for giving him an account that was for mexican who dont have papers. It got me really angry because that account is not even for that purpose we offer the same accounts to everyone. and that account that he was talkin about is for people who have bad credit. he was just talkin bad about latinos. he was tryin to silence me, which i did not think it was correct.

Amy Tan is the writer of Mother tongue

Amy Tan is the writer of "Mother tongue" in the reading Tan explains how there are different languages and people are categories by the way they speak. For example tan explains on paragraph three how she was giving a talk to a large group of people then she notice that her mother was in the room and her mom had never heard her talk english that way. Tan speaks  a different language when shes with her family or husband.  There is more than one english theres different "englishes" that we all speak. we speak a different language to different people. Tan also explains on the reading how people who do not speak very well english are labeld as "limmited" english which she argues that  is not right to label people because of the way they speak. One thing that she indicates is that the languages that are spoken in the family especially in immigrant families plays a big role in shaping the languages of a child, she explains this in paragraph 14. Tan also explains how people can be raises because of the way you speak her mother had gone to the hospital because she had an appointment waiting so anxiaously for the CAT scan results the hospital had lost them and they did not apologize. she was wooried because her husband and son had died from brain tumor and they did not even show any sympathy. people can be juged and critize by the way they speak a language. Tan indicates how  a viarity of Asians go into math instead of english becuase thats what there really good at, but she decided to write. Tan learned that her mother is the one that helped her become the writer she is today.

In my own experiences i personally agree that with Tan how people do speak different languages which they have different tounges, but that does not give the right for others to be raises against those who you can say do not speak for example good english. That does not mean that person is not smart or doesn't know way there doing it basically does not defined the person. You can have an accent and people wont understand you, but that does not mean that you do not know what you are talking about. From my own experience i know people who have critize others because they do not speak good english or without an accent. and they are put down beacuse of the way they speak or they know the language, but do not want to speak it. One personal experince i had is when my grandma had to go to the doctor and i went with her beacuse she needed someone to translate for her we were waiting for a while and i had to go pick up my cousins and i was not going to make it in time to translate for my grandma and the girl in front desk spoke spanish so my grandma ask her if she can translate for her and i over herd the girl tell her co worker that she did not want to she did not like speakin spanish.

blog response #3

how does sacrifies influence/ impact the family?
in life you do have to make a lot of sacrafises sometimes that might affect oneself or family and it is painfull to do. for example having to quit school because you to support your family that can most defitnally impact them in so many different ways. Anohter example can be sometimes parents cannot afford to give there kids everything they want so they have to make sacrafises, but it also makes children learn how it is not easy in life to survive and make them appreciate what they have.In Rain of Gold Juan was in Montana and was away from his family and his mom wanted Juan to come back home she would pray that he would come back home. Juan made that sacrafies to be away from his family for a long period of time. He was away for six yrs. his mom wanted him to come for christmas so she lied that she was really sick and she was praying and hoping that Juan would come back. Which he did end up coming back and promised his mom he would never leave her sight again. Eventhough he was unhappy that he was going to leave his businness in Montana. In life you have to make a lot of sacrafises and theres always going to be obstecles but together you get through it.

Blog response #2

How is sacrifice related to pride?
Sacrafice is related to pride in so many different ways because you make sacrafices in life because your pride is more important. For example sacrafices like wanting something for yourself, but you have the choice to either spend it for yourself or help your family thats an example of sacrafice. Pride is when you stand up for something that your proud for example your culture were you come from you have prode.

What is the difference between reality and faith?
I belive that the difference between reality and faith is that reality is something that does accour and it happens in reality what life is about its not a fairy tell and faith is when you believe in someone or in something for example a saint or you have faith that something would help you for example lets say you are in financial crisis, but you have faith that everything is going to get better. that its an exaple of having faith.

Literature Circle blog 1

The scene i drew juans family and everyone was looking for food. Juan tried eating his little burro but couldn't eat that night juan cried sleepin under the stars. I choose this scene because i can feel juan's pain how his burro had to be killed so everyone can eat since they were starving he was hurt and could not eat his own burro even if he was starving. This is interestin scene because it connects to how when you have to let go of something or someone it hurts it is pain full. Also how it feel not having food and starving your self that has never happen to me, but other families have experince it. my family experieced it when they were small. I would defined this scene as sorrow.

9) What causes digital immigrants to feel they are subservient or less than digital natives in a society?

What causes immigrants to feel they are subservient or less than digital natives its because they never had so much technology in there days maybe they did not have the chance to use technology and now there is so much technology that digital immigrants feel subservient because the generation from now has adapted to technology it is easier for them to learn about technology. for example someone who was born in the 80"s it is easier to learn let say how to use a blackberry and someone who is a digital immigrant it is more difficult for them learn how to use a blackberry.  Now everyone has to adapted and learn how to use technology because there is there is technology everywhere and we use it on our everyday life.

Reflection on Munoz

What is the meaning of being subservient in a dominant culture?
The meanig of being in a dominant culture is that most of the time people try to change there names to others or others try to change there name to get better jobs and better aportunities in life. A viarity of people are affected by there names because there opportunities are limited in finding a job or beeing vilified because of there name or how your name is pronaunce for example if you name is jose people change it to joe if your name is maria is changed to marie. for some people there name definds them and they dont change there name at all because they were raise with that name there whole life.

Literature Cirlcle Blog 1

The scene i drew lupe is on the hillside trying to get water she then notices a soldier she was so nervous it was the a soldier (the Colonel). lupe just kept staring at him she felt such a wonder she felt all sort of thing happenin inside her heart(pg.21). I selected this theme because it was so nice how lupe did not trust anyone, but her mom and she only loved her mom no one else, she is so attached to her. The personal connection i made was that i have always said when i was small how can you love someone how those it feel and well when i first fell inlove i new what it felt no one can discribe it. In one word i would summarize this scene as LOVE.

What is the digital culture?

when i hear digital culture to me it means technology. Digital culture is technology because now days you don't have to go to the library and do research you can find it all online. Before there wasnt so much technology you actually had to go to the library and research books. Also news papers are goin out of business because you can now read articles online and you dont have to buy the actual news paper. Technology is a huge thing in the United States and each day we use more and more technology
